Foxconn starts shifting some Apple production to Vietnam – Big opportunity opening up to Vietnamese Logistics.

Reuters – the reputable publication in the UK – has reported a piece of exclusive news on Nov 26th, 2020 about the fact that Foxconn starts shifting some iPad and MacBook assembly to Vietnam from China at the request of Apple Inc, as the U.S. firm diversifies production to minimize the impact of a Sino-U.S. trade war.

Following Reuters’ information sources, Foxconn is building assembly lines for Apple’s iPad tablet and MacBook laptop at its plant in Vietnam’s northeastern Bac Giang province, to come online in the first half of 2021. During Trump’s tenure, the United States has targeted made-in-China electronics for higher import tariffs, and restricted supplies of components produced using U.S. technology to Chinese firms it deems a national security risk.

Although it has not confirmed yet about the exact iPad and Macbook models (which will be produced in Vietnam), and it is still a question about the production portion of Apple will be moved out of China, but these are not the first Apple products been made in Vietnam, as AirPods Pro had been manufactured in Bac Ninh at the beginning of 2020.

This news is such a good sign for Vietnamese Logistics as the opportunity door is opened as widely as possible. The Logistics market is predicted to be very crowded in 2021 by economics specialists. However, Vietnamese Logistics enterprises need to be ready for the strong competition forces between not only local companies but also local and foreign companies. If they don’t plan carefully about the technology, human resource and improve the service quality, surely some enterprises will face many difficulties in the “booking – taken – war”

According to another source from Nikkei Japan, Foxconn is planning to invest at least 270 million USD in Vietnam to expand its production capacity. The Taiwanese company is reportedly moving more than 30% of its production line out of China.

Besides, a construction corporation revealed that they have just signed a contract for Television production in Vietnam, including the famous Japanese brand – Sony. The production factory is expected to be operated from the end of 2020 to early 2021. However, Sony declined to comment on this news.
